Kitchen Lighting

Replacing old, worn-out kitchen lighting fixtures has become so much easier over the past few years due to the rising popularity of do-it-yourself home improvement type projects in general, and specifically in kitchen upgrades. With all the new fixtures available, it’s no wonder the selection is huge.

There are literally hundreds of all types lighting including flush mounted fixtures, flourescent lighting, and track lighting to name a few. And now that house flipping has risen in popularity as well, we thought we would take a look at some of the more popular types of fixtures that fit in well with the flip ‘theme’ upgrading with quality, but not at prohibitively high costs.

Flush Mounted Fixtures

The flush mount type of fixture is a very popular and inexpensive option for a funtional, yet attractive kitchen lighting unit. Again, as was stated earlier, there are so many styles to choose from, there will literally be an option for any type of taste in decor. If you want something inexpensive (as you can get), there are the basic economy fixtures that start out around $6 or $7. Cheap in price yes, but quality stuff nonetheless.

As you move up in quality and ornamentation, obviously the price goes up, but only relatively slightly. Excellent fixtures such as the one shown in the picture can be obtained for somewhere in the range of $40 to $70.

You should be able to find any manner of kitchen lighting at most home improvement stores nationwide. And the great thing about it is the fact that these fixtures are stock items. There are more expensive models to choose from, but generally you won’t spend more than $100 for any one fixture at the top end like the one pictured here.

Flourescent Lighting

Many people prefer the bright light from a flourescent fixture as opposed to a standard one or two socket flush mounted fixture. This light would work well in a large eat-in type kitchen where there is a lot of space to illuminate. It use to be, however, that these type of fixtures were the drab, boring kind of factory-looking type of light fixture. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore with units like the one pictured. You can buy one of these for about $125.

Track Lighting

Another stylish addition to any kitchen is the track lighting system that seems to be very popular. An attractive feature they have is the fact you can swivel and postion the light itself in the direction you want to illuminate.

Line them up to illuminate cabinets, the sink area, pictures on the wall, the dining room table, anywhere you want.

You can expect to pay somewhere around $20 to $30 for an inexpensive light system, on up to around $180 for the top end.
